1 Month In

So it’s been a month since we opened the doors and in that time we have welcomed so many great people to the café.  It’s been fantastic to finally get some feedback on the décor, food and feel of the place.

Our snug area with relaxed seating has proved very popular.

In our first 4 weeks we have served 2540 coffees, 1073 open sandwiches and 1654 slices of cake/pastries – it’s been incredible!

I really need to thank our team who have worked so hard to make everyone’s experiences as positive as they could possibly make them.  You can read a little bit more about each of them on our ‘About’ page.

Other thanks should also go out to some of our reviewers including blogger Emma Trotter who wrote this lovely piece about us, and Colin Murdoch who shot some great photos for the website and blog.  Our suppliers are too numerous to thank in this post but we will be focussing on some of them in more detail soon.

So what have we got planned in the future?

Specials

We have ordered an extra menu board to mount behind the counter so we can offer you some specials to keep our offer fresh for returning customers.   We have a real mixture of nationalities amongst our staff and we plan to celebrate this by offering each member of staff the chance to design their own open sandwich so you can expect a taste of America, South Africa and Finland in the next few months.

Our baristas are working on some seasonal drinks and some other specialities that have been requested such as a Chai Latte brewed with a home-made Spicy Chai syrup.

Takeaway

We have recognised the need to meet the demands of those people who want to try our food but haven’t got the time to wait for a sandwich to be freshly prepared during our busy lunch service.  To get over the problem we are offering a pre-order service for our sandwiches so if you order by 11am we will have the sandwich prepared and waiting for you when you come in to collect.  We are also offering all sandwiches with a 20% reduction on the menu price.

Events

We are developing a special menu for the Harrogate Christmas Market over 22-25 November 12 to include some festive drinks and snacks to be served until late each evening to coincide with the market.

Cakes to order

We have had some enquiries from people wishing to order whole cakes for special occasions, so we have had a cake menu printed with details on how to order – just ask a member of the team for a copy or you can check it out online.

This quirkily iced Princesskake has a cream, custard and jam filling.

Loyalty Cards

We have already got some very loyal customers so we felt we needed to reward them in some small way.  We have wrangled with electronic and paper options, but for now the old-fashioned card has won out.  From early Nov 12 you can pick up a loyalty card in the café and have your tenth coffee on us.

New Smoothies

We are now stocking a range of smoothies from the friendly people at Ilkley based company Früt.  The bottles look great, they are made just 18 miles away and most importantly they taste fantastic.  There are 4 flavours to choose from; Raspberry & Blackberry, Strawberry and Banana, Mango and Passionfruit and White Peach and Apricot.  The even better news is that each smoothie provides 2 of your 5 a day.

Gluten-Free Options

Despite Katie being a full-time dietitian we completely underestimated the number of you who are now living on a gluten-free diet.  We want to be able to offer something for everyone so we have developed some gluten-free options that include gluten-free bread or your choice of sandwich topping on sliced potato or garlic vegetables.  These options are available now and will be printed on our new menus from early November.

So that’s it for now…..

We plan to spend more time updating the Blog/Twitter/Facebook now that the website is up and running and we have settled down a little into cafe life.  From the entire team we’d like to thank every person who has taken the plunge and come to visit us, we hope you enjoyed the experience and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
