Well it’s been a couple of weeks since my last post and I thought I should give a bit of an update on where we are with the building work.
We have been working hard to strip the ground floor bare including knocking off plaster, removing wallpaper and ripping out electrics throughout. So far we have had 7 loads of rubble, wood and mixed waste removed by the ever cheerful Alec at Loads-A-Rubbish who has been first-class.
Our main building contractor Evora have also been busy. The old 1980s pink shop front is gone, footings for the new one are excavated and today the new front, which has been fabricated off-site, arrived. The second delivery for today was the new steel beams that will allow us to remove the majority of the internal light well and open up the shop from front to back.
Our basement is being damp-proofed with a cavity-drain membrane by Timberwise Leeds, Mark and Dean the fitters arrived early yesterday morning to get cracking and already have most of the walls covered. It’s amazing how a bit of plastic on the walls can make the basement feel warmer and dryer already.
What have we got coming up? We’ll be laying a chipboard floor over the weekend so our other builders (because one’s not enough!!) Sky’s the Limit can be in next week to begin dry-lining the basement. First fix work will begin for the electrician and plumber and new ceilings can be installed in some areas upstairs.
Not a lot of work for the unskilled client I hear you say……true, but we’ll be visiting some fantastic potential Yorkshire suppliers like Limini Coffee, Yorkshire Farmers and Bondgate Bakery to make sure we can deliver on the ‘Yorkshire Sourced’ element of our ethos so we won’t be entirely idle!!
