Looking for a halloween recipe? These spooky gingerbread biscuits are sure to bring a smile to Halloween party-goers’ faces. Serve them on a tray next to your other spooky delights.
Beat the butter and sugar together. Add the egg, flour and spices. The dough should be coming together as you mix it. Stir in the treacle, the dough needs to be rollable but not too wet. If the dough is dry, add more treacle. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate the mixture for 1 – 2 hours before rolling out. This is done so that the dough isn’t too soft.
Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut out your shapes with the cookie cutters. To make headless zombies, cut off their heads with a knife and stick them onto one of their arms. Place on trays allowing space to spread.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool. Once cooled, mix up your icing. Add drops of food colouring until you have mixed up the colour of your choice. Add more if the colour looks pale, but do this slowly!
Ta daaargh! You have now made your own ghoulish gingerbread creatures.
